Douglas Borough Council To Refurbish Market Hall Toilets
The £80,000 design and fit scheme by BTA Corporate Champion Member Healthmatic is due to begin in September, subject to building regulations approval, and finish in late October. The refurbishment will see the creation of four unisex cubicles accessed from James Street, including one for disabled users. The semi-automatic units will feature vandal-resistant easy-to-clean interiors and cubicle access will be coin-box operated at a charge of 20p. Cleaning and maintenance will be carried out under contract via Healthmatic.
The Council stated that they have been looking at how best to provide new public toilet facilities in the Market Hall that would be of a standard commensurate with the adjacent regenerated North Quay. In choosing the Healthmatic semi-automatic units the Council consider that it is leading the way Island-wide in providing secure, clean quality public conveniences. Other Council-operated public conveniences in the Borough will be considered for similar refurbishment when funds permitted.
